Description

As we move along this section, we leave behind Mount Grano to the southeast and the area known as Las Lapas to the northeast. Here, the concrete track gives way to a dirt path, leading into a zone called La Pelada, where the Canary Island pine forest (Pinus canariensis) has gradually reclaimed part of its former range near the lower limit of its natural distribution. This recovery has been possible thanks to the abandonment of traditional agriculture that once shaped the landscape in past centuries.

Among the pines and the native scrubland—dominated by "tabaibas" (Euphorbia lamarckii), "berodes" (Kleinia neriifolia), and "calcosas" (Rumex lunaria)—it is still possible to spot a few almond trees (Prunus dulcis) and fig trees (Ficus carica) that persist in the area, reluctant to disappear completely from this recovering landscape.
